Unistrut, I-Beam & Beam Clamp Ceiling TV Mounts

What these mounts are for

These are the parts for hanging a TV or projector from a steel or wood structure overhead: Unistrut channel, an i-beam, a ceiling joist, a truss, or a bare beam. Unistrut is a U-shaped metal channel commonly used in construction. Most of our ceiling mounts thread onto standard 1-1/2 inch NPT pipe, and the top of that pipe is what attaches to your structure.

How the parts fit together

How the parts fit together. Pick a ceiling mount for your screen size. Add a length of 1-1/2 inch NPT threaded pipe, or a telescoping extension, to set how far the screen drops. Then choose the adapter that grabs your structure:

The products below are the ceiling mounts, along with the Unistrut adapter and beam clamp. The i-beam and truss adapters live on their own product pages, linked from this list.

Buildings and ceilings this covers

This works for commercial and metal-frame buildings: warehouses, gyms, restaurants, breweries, retail, and any open-frame ceiling where there is steel or wood to grab. It also covers a home basement or garage where you want to hang a TV from an exposed joist.

Cathedral, vaulted, sloped, slanted or angled, no matter what you call it, we have adapters for sloped ceilings too.

Unistrut and beam mount FAQ

How do I install Unistrut on the ceiling?

Fasten the Unistrut channel across your ceiling framing first, into joists, beams or another solid structure, so it spans between two supports. Then bolt a Unistrut pipe adapter to the channel, thread a length of 1-1/2 inch NPT pipe into the adapter, and hang your ceiling mount on the pipe. Unistrut is handy when there is no single beam right where you want the TV, because the channel bridges the gap between two supports.

How do I hang a TV from a ceiling joist or an i-beam?

For a wood joist, use a ceiling plate and lag it into the joist, then thread 1-1/2 inch NPT pipe into the plate and add your mount. For a steel i-beam, use a beam clamp or i-beam adapter that clamps onto the flange with no drilling, then thread the pipe into it. Measure the flange width or joist first so the clamp fits.

How do I hang Unistrut?

Support the channel at both ends into solid framing, not just drywall. Once the channel is anchored, everything else hangs from a pipe adapter bolted to the channel. If you are spanning a long distance or the run feels flexible, add a support in the middle.

Do these mounts work in a metal building or commercial ceiling?

Yes. Warehouses, gyms, restaurants, breweries, retail and other metal-frame or open-frame buildings are the common use. Grab a steel purlin or i-beam with a beam clamp, or run Unistrut between two members, then hang the pipe and mount from that.

What size pipe and adapters do I need?

Most of our ceiling mounts use 1-1/2 inch NPT threaded pipe. You pick a pipe length or a telescoping extension for the drop you want, then the adapter that matches your structure: Unistrut adapter, beam clamp, i-beam adapter, truss clamp or ceiling plate. If you are not sure which fits your beam or channel, call us and we can check.

Can you help me put together the right combination of parts?

Yes. Tell us your screen size, your ceiling height, and what is up there to attach to, a beam, a joist, Unistrut, or a truss. We will tell you the mount, pipe length and adapter that fit. We can customize most ceiling mounts. Call or email for assistance.

Keep in mind, the right adapter depends on your exact beam flange width or channel size. Measure it before you order. Call us at 800-585-8795 or email sales@videomountstore.com if you need help picking, or possibly a different solution.
