Build a custom TV ceiling mount
4 Steps to configure a ceiling mount. After we know what size screen you are mounting, you pick the top/ceiling plate that fits your install. Then you pick a mounting head that will fit your screen(s). Final step is to determine the length down the TV needs to be. Call 800-585-8795 or Contact Us for help.
Take your best guess. The diagonal measurement of your screen is what we need. Most common size is 55 inches.

Where do the top and bottom of the TV end up?
- TV height
- Down to the top of the TV
- Down to the bottom of the TV
Measured from the surface the top plate mounts to down to the top and bottom of the TV. We add an inch to the screen for the bezel, so these describe the whole TV. Models vary a little. We take the mounting holes as mid-screen, so higher holes put the TV lower than we show.

Parts, offsets, and ranges
The finished length is calculated by adding together the ceiling plate offset + the pipe stack (including couplers, which add 1-1/2 inches each) + the head offset. Thread engagement is accounted for in the ceiling plate and head offsets.

Mounting heads
Head offsets are quoted to the center of the mount's mounting-hole pattern (about mid-screen). The DD dental head is the exception: it holds the TV horizontal, so its offset runs to the back of the TV. "Any size" means the head has no screen-size limit on file; confirm TV weight and VESA fit before you buy regardless.
Good to know before you build
- Drywall alone is not structure, and a drop-ceiling grid is never structure. The mount is only as good as its grip on the building structure.
- Going through a surface (a drop ceiling, or drywall with a void above)? Measure from the structure attachment point; the structure-to-surface distance uses up part of the length.
- Pipes cannot thread into each other; every extra pipe joins through a coupler, which adds about 1-1/2 inches per joint.
- We avoid single pipes 48 inches and longer; they draw an oversize shipping surcharge, and the same length builds cheaper from shorter pieces.
- Keep the TV at least 7 feet off the floor where people walk under it.
- Every part in a build ships from stock; there is no lead-time penalty for configuring.
