Slanted, Angled & Cathedral Ceiling TV Mounts

Works on slanted ceilings

Yes, you can mount a TV on a slanted ceiling. Cathedral, vaulted, sloped, slanted, pitched or angled, no matter what you call it, the mounts below are built to hang straight on a ceiling that is not flat.

The part that does the work

The part that does the work is the angled ceiling plate. It pivots, so even when the ceiling runs on a slope the pipe below it stays plumb (straight down) and your TV hangs level. It fits 1-1/2 inch NPT pipe, adjustable masts and extension columns, which is the same pipe every ceiling mount below uses. You can buy the angled ceiling plate on its own, or add it to a mount from the drop-down above the Add to Cart button. We also stock a USA-made angled ceiling plate that pivots a full 90 degrees for soffits, beam sides and the steepest pitches, and, for select VMP mounts, a cathedral ceiling adapter.

Measure your slope first

To know what you need, measure your slope first. Hold a level flat against the ceiling and measure how many inches it drops over 12 inches of run, or lay a phone angle app right on the ceiling. That gives you the angle in degrees. The plate pivots up to 83 degrees in either direction from square to the ceiling, so it keeps the pipe plumb on any pitch up to 83 degrees. Write it down before you order and we can confirm your pipe length.

Anchoring into structure

Keep in mind: the plate has to anchor into structure, a joist or solid blocking, not just drywall. If your "wall" is really the low underside of a pitched roof, this still works. You are mounting to the slope and letting the pipe drop straight down in front of it.

Angled ceiling TV mount FAQ

Can you mount a TV on a slanted ceiling?

Yes. A slanted, sloped or angled ceiling needs an angled ceiling plate. The plate pivots where it meets the ceiling, so the pipe below it hangs plumb (straight down) and your TV sits level, even though the ceiling itself is on an angle. It fits 1-1/2 inch NPT pipe, so it works with the ceiling mounts in this collection.

How does an angled ceiling mount keep the TV straight?

The pivot in the ceiling plate does it. You anchor the plate to the sloped ceiling, then tilt the socket until it points straight at the floor and lock it. The mast or pipe threads into that socket, so the whole mount below hangs vertical no matter what angle the ceiling runs.

What is the difference between a sloped, vaulted, cathedral and pitched ceiling?

Mostly just the name. Sloped, slanted, vaulted, cathedral and pitched all describe a ceiling that is not flat, and they all take the same fix: an angled ceiling plate that pivots the pipe back to vertical. Use whichever word your builder used, the part is the same.

How do I measure my ceiling angle before I order?

Hold a level flat against the ceiling and measure how far it drops over 12 inches of run, or lay a phone angle app right on the ceiling to read the degrees. Write that number down. The angled ceiling plate pivots up to 83 degrees from square to the ceiling, so nearly any pitch is within range, but send us the angle and we will confirm your pipe length before you buy.

Can I mount a TV on the low underside of a pitched roof?

Yes. If the surface you want to use is really the sloped underside of a roof, treat it as a sloped ceiling. Anchor the angled ceiling plate into a rafter or solid blocking, set the pivot so the pipe drops straight down, and the TV hangs out in front of the slope on the pipe.

Will this work on a steep or heavily vaulted ceiling?

Yes. The 11CP006 angled ceiling plate pivots the drop pipe up to 83 degrees in either direction from square to the ceiling, which keeps your TV hanging plumb on virtually any sloped, vaulted, angled, pitched or cathedral ceiling. Pitches past 83 degrees, soffits and beam sides take the 11AC005 angled plate, which pivots a full 90 degrees.
