One honest note about coupled combinations: the coupler itself adds about 1-1/2 inches, so a joined pair runs about 1-1/2 inches longer than the two pipe lengths added together. How options are selected
  • Cheapest - lowest total price for that length, fixed or adjustable.
  • Flexible - starts with the cheapest combination using any adjustable pipe that gives meaningful flex in both directions (at least 25% of each adjustable's range, both shorter and longer than the target). If a slightly more expensive combination (up to $5 more) gives at least 2 inches more in the weaker direction of travel, that combination is shown instead. (The "weaker direction" is whichever is smaller - shorter or longer - so the customer gets more balanced flex, not one-sided coverage.)
  • Most Flexible - the cheapest combination using the 32-to-60 or 44-to-72 inch adjustable that gives at least 12 inches of travel both shorter and longer than the target. Past that, lower cost wins and symmetry only breaks ties. If no combination reaches 12 inches both ways, the most balanced one is shown. Same 25% travel requirement.

Save $X - a green "Save" card shown under Most Flexible. When a cheaper 32-to-60 or 44-to-72 kit still reaches your entered length with real flex both ways (at least 7 inches shorter and longer), it is surfaced here. It passes every safety rule - it simply gives a little less travel on one side than the 12-inch Most Flexible bar. Since the entered length is only an estimate, it usually still fits comfortably.

Combinations may include "spare" pipes. The customer can use as many or as few of the pieces as they need. For example, a kit with an adjustable, a coupler, and a fixed pipe lets the customer use just the adjustable for shorter lengths, or attach the coupler and fixed pipe for longer lengths. The travel range shown reflects the full continuous coverage available from such a kit.

Minimum travel by adjustable: 8 to 12 needs 1" both ways. 12 to 20 needs 2". 20 to 36 needs 4". 32 to 60 and 44 to 72 each need 7".
